Windsurfing again!

Fantastic, my Dad has taken up windsurfing again at the tender age of 73, (I’m reliably informed that he lied on the hire form about his age, he put 68 in case they had a cut off point for their insurance at 70!) so I bought him an hours hire at the Official Test Centre which is based (for now) at the National Sailing Academy. He’s hired from there a few times recently and is enjoying it loads.

He told me that he’s going there Sunday morning fro an hour to use the voucher I got him and I said I’d join him, a little nervous as it must be about 10 years since I stood on a windsurfer which is daft considdering I’ve lived by Portland Harbour for 8 years now!

Anyway, hired a medium board in 20mph winds and beach started off, felt good, looked good, didn’t fall off immediately and harnessed myself in, hooked my feet into the straps and I flew away like I hadn’t been for 10 days! It’s like riding a bike but wetter.

I was a little chicken and tacked for the first few turns but I felt really awkward doing that so for the second half of my hour I gybed every time and pulled every one of them off without ditching myself or the sail, they probably looked a little stacato but that’s lack of practice, I would say there’s a very high chance I’ll be doing the same again within a week!

Backtracking form that, Mary & I were invited to the launch of the Spirit of the Sea Festival on Friday, drinks VIP reception stuff, did that, said hi to the Mayor who seems to be following me about these days. Then went off forĀ a Pizza in the Stables, loved that, met up with friends after that and went to the Kings Arms on the waterfront to watch a band play, great night out but woke up a little fuzzy headed.

Saturday, got up slow, Mary cooked a wicked fry up then we went to the bike shop to help Amanda pick up her new bike, Mary bought a new helmet too, we all cycled home and now Amanda has no excuse for not cycling with us to Portland at the weekends!!!

Saturday night we were invited to a friends BBQ, with kids and bouncy castle, plenty of food, plenty of wine, plenty of chats etc. loved every minute. Got home after midnight, late for me as I like to be in bed by 10! AND still managed to get up on Sunday as go windsurfing as described above! Sunday afternoon, cavery lunch at the Galley with Mum, Dad, Mary, Liam and my second (pos third) cousin Winnie (from Brum).
